Commercial electrical installations should be inspected and tested at appropriate intervals to help identify deterioration, defects and potential electrical hazards.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) assesses the condition of an existing electrical installation, including its wiring, circuits, protective devices and other relevant components.
An EICR can identify issues such as damaged wiring, inadequate protection, overloaded circuits or deterioration that could affect electrical safety.
Unlike the specific five-year inspection requirement that applies to many privately rented homes in England, there isn’t one universal EICR interval that applies to every commercial property.
The appropriate inspection frequency depends on factors including:
- The type and use of the premises.
- The condition and age of the electrical installation.
- The environment in which electrical equipment operates.
- The recommendations from previous inspection reports.
- The level of risk associated with the installation.
For many ordinary commercial environments, a five-year interval may be recommended, but some installations require more frequent inspection. The appropriate interval should be determined through assessment of the premises and applicable requirements.
At Jordan Jameson Electrical, we carry out commercial EICRs, provide digital inspection reports and can supply separate quotations for any remedial work identified.
